First night at a little hotel with little soaps but hot water! Picked up our gorilla permits. That only took one hour. Apparently planning 11 months in advance made it harder for them - not easier.
Visited the genocide memorial museum. Very powerful. Our guides family was killed (he was out of the country) and his father and younger brother were identified and buried there.
Then two hour drive up to the mountains. Beautiful countryside even though overcast and still drizzly. Just had lunch and are now going to see the Twin Lakes.

Ok....I'm unpacking and splitting my clothes into two bags. Your thoughts about not wanting to know anything about cameras, Georgia, are my thoughts exactly about pool chemicals!!! Drama follows us everywhere. Just learned our ranger will be on vacation for 8 days while we're at the lodge. Scrambling to find a replacement. See you in Joburg. Melody
ReplyDeleteIf you had all of your bags and it was bright and sunny, it wouldn't be as much of an adventure......... Besides, how many bags do you need up in the forests with the gorillas? Is the country putting its past behind it and the two ethnic groups getting along well now?
