Dingle

Today we headed for Dingle. The drive up took about 2-1/2 hours through varying countryside that changed from the lush green of County Cork into a craggier, scrubbier looking terrain in this area of County Kerry.

On the way, we did see Carriganass castle, a wee slip of a thing but bigger than some other castle remnants we have passed.
Once in the little town of Dingle we had a quick lunch of fried calamari and chips, strolled around a bit to stretch our legs and then jumped back in the car to drive the Slae Head Loop Drive.  This was a much nicer drive than the Sheep's Head drive out of Bantry in as much as there were signs and turn outs and places to stop along the stunning coastal drive.
But the real reason we decided to spend another afternoon driving around yet another head was for pie. Yup, pie. When we were back in Kinsale, the owner of the Black Pig restaurant where we had dinner the first night had given us some suggestions for places to eat along the rest of our journey here in Ireland. She mentioned the Slae Head Drive and told us to find the pie lady. All she said was that at the very western tip of the drive at 'coomenole' (or something like that - we would recognize it when we saw it) if we looked at the houses on the hill we would see one with little tables in front. No sign. No nothing. Just tables. And if we went up to the house the woman would sell us coffee and apple pie.

Well we found the area...couminole and stopped at parking area on the southern edge. None of the houses looked like the place. But across the bay I thought I saw what might be tables in front of a little house. So we got in the car and kept driving and pulled over and walked up to the door and peeked our heads in and said "Hello. Are you the lady who sells coffee and pie? "
And she was. And she did. And it was wonderful pie. And the weather was perfect. And the view was gorgeous. And it was well worth another drive.
